Serviced and polished this novel travel alarm clock from West Germany has a finish that looks a lot like silver.
Hard to ignore the word "Radium" as seen here on the dial. Probably the luminous paint that glows in the dark is radioactive. That material has been carefully removed and disposed of. Less than 5% percent of the original luminous paint remains.
Right side view. The nickel plating on this clock looks a lot like silver, but it is not. German-Nickel or Silver-Nickel as it is known is 60% copper, 20% zinc and 20% nickel.
Left side view reveals some corrosion to the finish which has been polished and electroplated with nickel and lightly coated with a clear lacquer. This is about a good as it gets for the effort.
Back side view.
Completely disassembled. Each piece was cleaned and polished. The internal mechanism has been thoroughly cleaned and lubricated with a synthetic clock oil.
Stamped on the mechanism reads : NO JEWELS, UNADJUSTED, ARISTOCRAT CLOCK CO, WEST GERMANY, 5. The camera makes this mechanism look really dusty. Most if not all of the dust can't be seen with the normal human eye.
There are some scratches and scuffs on the mechanism plate, so it is safe to assume it has been disassembled at least a few times before.
New luminous paint is very bright and somewhat exaggerated in the photo.
In person the glow effect is more precise and less bright than what is picture here.
